Events - 2007 Trans AM Nationals
It seems like just yesterday that we were posting images from the 2006 show. Now, the 2007 show is a memory and we're already looking forward to the 2008 show. Scott Roberson from Thomasville, GA and I hauled the '79 coupe up while brother Scott flew in the comfort of a 737. The trip up was a 13.5 hr. pleasure ride compared to the ride home, which turned out to be a 20hr trip from hell. We had our first trailer tire blow-out in Cincinnati at 12:00 midnight Sunday. The floor jack would not pick up the trailer with the car loaded inside far enough to get the spare in place, so we backed the car out on to a median between an on-ramp and I-75 south bound. It was a wonderful feeling watching semi tractor trailers fly by the TA somewhere between 90 and 110mph. I was afraid the trailer was going to blow over from the wind. We found a hotel in Lexington about 2:00am and settled in for a few hours rest. At 8:00am we were up and in hot pursuit of a spare. No one had one our size but they could all have one "tomorrow". We finally found one two hours later.
Just south of Lexington, KY we had our second trailer blow-out. This time we pulled the back tire up on the chalk block and left the jack in the truck. We had that baby changed in about 15 minutes while the TA slept inside. This time it would take another four hours to locate a spare just south of Dalton, GA. We finally made it home just before midnight Monday.
The show was excellent and the weather incredible. Over 420 Firebirds and TA's present. A Trans Am heaven. What a great weekend !
